Easter Egg Hunt

The annual Easter Egg Hunt will take place this Sunday in the paddock of The Cricketers Inn at 12:30pm

Prizes for children from infants onwards, raffle and refreshments for grownups.

KBF tonight

There will be a meeting of KBF participants in the Cricketers tonight from the traditional 8pm

Christmas fair/party @ the pub

The first KBF Christmas fair and party was held in the Cricketers on Saturday starting with Father Christmas for the little ones and shopping/eating/gaming opportunities for big people.

Phase II started at 8pm sharp with mass carol singing led by the Kings Pond Shantymen. The organisers, Carol and John Verrier, had even provided comprehensive song sheets for everyone in the pub so the roof was, almost, raised.

When we were all carol'ed out we moved on to a lively karaoke session which definitely did raise the roof.

Support from within the village was thin - let's face it, it was freezing last night - but £150 was raised for KBF funds and we look forward to restaging the event in 2012 with lessons learned.

Christmastide is here again and Kingsley will be enjoying not one, not two but THREE sets of carol singing this year:

6pm Saturday 17th @ the Cricketers Inn - "Kings Pond Shantymen"

KBF Party at the pub - 17th December

The date has now been set for the Kingsley Benefit Fund Christmas party/karaoke at The Cricketers Inn.

Proceedings will commence around 6pm, Saturday 17th December.

As with the mini-festival held in August we hope to have a selection of stalls and if you'd like to run one please get in touch soon.

We're hoping to have Father Christmas, mince pies, cakes, carol singing around 8pm followed by karaoke till late. Those who attended the summer mini-festival will have high expectations, those who missed it now have a second chance.

Autumn bulb planting - that means you

KBF is planting bulbs in the village again this autumn and we need your help.

We have identified the best places to plant and we have sought expert advice from within the village about what to plant and when but this is your village and we want you to participate directly by contributing bulbs and we want you also to help with the actual planting.

The plan is to plant bulbs in four locations: near the speed limit signs at either end of the village, outside the Kingsley Centre opposite the church and on Lower Green below the pub and in front of the cottages there.

We have arranged for a supply of each of four bulbs to start us off.  The bulbs we have chosen are: Crocus Tommasinianus, Tenby Daffodil, Pheasant eye daffodill and Frittilaria.

What we’d like you to do is to purchase the remainder of the bulbs yourself.  You can choose more of the bulbs above or you can choose something different, entirely your choice as long as what you buy is suitable for autumn planting.  Springfields Nursery at Oakhanger and Country Market at Sleaford  both have a wide range of bulbs priced between £1.80 and £5.

Collection boxes are available in the Kingsley Centre and the Cricketers Inn, just drop your bulbs in and we’ll take care of them.

We would also like you to help plant the bulbs.  We plan to plant them on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th September from 10am onwards.  We’d like you to commit now to helping on one of those days, just an hour will be fine or all day if you’re keen.  There is a sheet next to the collection boxes, please add your name to the list of planters or in the comments below.

Autumn bulb planting

This year we want to plant bulbs on Lower Green, outside the Kingsley Centre and around the speed limit signs at both ends of the village.  We have sought expert advice from within the village and have identified several suitable bulbs

Now we need your help in two ways: firstly we need to raise £300 to buy the bulbs, £3 per household would be more than enough, and secondly we need volunteers to spend an hour or so on Sunday 25th September or Monday 26th September actually planting the bulbs.

This is your village, please help make it that bit nicer for everyone.

Cricketers on Thursday

The Cricketers Inn Thursday 30th June 7:30pm sharp

The KBF will be holding an informal session at the pub. A barbecue will be available if it’s not tipping down.

Please come and join us, we’ll be discussing flower arranging. Yes, it does concern you; Yes, you will be interested; Yes, you can bring your children as well; No, a trip to the pub won’t kill you.

Kingsley Benefit Fund AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Kingsley Benefit Fund was held today in The Cricketers Inn. The Chairman's report presented at the meeting is reproduced below.  The existing committee was re-elected, the formal constitution was adopted and it was further agreed that we will conduct a bulb planting exercise later this year and contact Tony Pears about distribution of almoner's funds.

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

I took over as Chairman of a sadly reduced Kingsley Benefit Fund at the last AGM held 11th November 2009 in the Kingsley Centre.  At that meeting most of the existing committee members were retiring and, as no new members were forthcoming, the main proposal was to dissolve the KBF.

It was agreed however that the small number of members willing to continue should do so but that we would no longer be involved in the running of the Kingsley Fete.  We would however continue to run the Easter Egg hunt and handle other events on an ad-hoc basis.

Easter 2010 saw the most successful Egg Hunt yet. It was well promoted around the village and in the local schools, well attended and even made a profit as the Treasurer’s report will show!

Marcus proposed holding a Kingsley Concert day at The Cricketers in August in collaboration with the KBF.  This was agreed in principle but subsequently support for the idea faded away due to a series of family, work and sickness conflicts.

In October I was approached by Mary Herbert seeking funds towards the provision of allotments and/or upkeep of St Nicholas.  I explained that neither of those fell within the aims of the KBF but realised that the KBF needed a formal document to express those aims more clearly.  That document will hopefully be adopted at the AGM.

Easter 2011 came very late, 24th April, and without last year’s heavy promotion, it was decided that no attempt at fundraising would occur at the Easter Egg Hunt.  On the day only a few children turned up but all went away happy and stuffed with chocolate so we count that as a success.
